Spokane Valley, WA -> Idaho panhandle -> St. Ignatius, MT

[Note: see my YouTube playlist for the latest videos, starting with June 4th for all the new ones.]

Hello from St. Ignatius, Montana! I’m trying to get this published quickly so I can get back on the trail, so it’s just going to be a flurry of pictures. I’ll try to update with more narrative next time, but needless to say the big highlight this time was having Wendy surprise me on trail to spend a few days together as I walked from Washington, through the Idaho panhandle and into Montana! Best days on any trail, ever! Here’s to wishing you a sunny trail! Max

Home comes to the trail
No, my yard is the weirdest
Spokane Valley bunny
I ♥️ you too
Have walked across this border many times
Keeping pace
Like looking in a mirror
I have been so advised
Marshland, thankfully, before buggy season
Snowy forest service road in June
Gassed from a very long climb
His outstretched body slightly visible in the shadow
Got logs?
Downtown Wallace, ID
The Silver Mountain Gondola
Pleasant day, pleasant scene
Walked along this river for a spell
Abundant deer keeping me company
Looking across the Clark Fork
Montana mountains from a distance
Basically, half my day
Sadly, didn’t see any
Spent the night here with Wendy, charming town
Met Dirtybird (trail family from my first AT hike) and his wife Nicole for breakfast on the road near St. Ignatius, MT
Mmmmm…
Another nice mountain town
Walking into serious mountain country
Never been a fan of business name puns
Doesn’t seem like it would hold a desperado

  • I’m familiar with Plains, MT. Not too far down the road from there is Paradise, MT, where there used to be a railroad crosstie treating plant and storage yard. I used to visit that plant frequently back in the mid 80s. Thanks for posting progress on your trek. Stay safe!

    • It’s always great to hear from you Dale! I finally crossed into North Dakota today, camping tonight in Beach, just across the border, whew! And yes, lots of rail related stuff in Montana! Hope your summer is going well! Take care brother! Michael
