Start Date and Direction
My 2021 thru-hike attempt of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) will be southbound (SOBO), beginning at the Canadian border on Friday, June 25th. The physical therapy following my recent foot surgery took longer than I anticipated, making it unrealistic to meet my earlier (NOBO) start date.
Bridge Out
(May 27 Update): the PCTA reports that a bridge near the northern terminus was washed away recently. No word yet whether anything temporary will be in place when I head south from Canada in June, but if not I’ll need to find a suitable alternate as the underlying “stream” is swollen with spring snow melt in the Class IV/Class V range of difficulty (per PCTA) and cannot be safely forded.
