This recipe is not for the faint of heart – it requires 3 1/2 cups of sugar. It tasted as good – if not better – than I remember. Oh Grama Pearl – some of my fondest childhood memories involve you and food.
Some notes – 4 squares of chocolate is equal to 4 ounces. You will need a candy thermometer as you need to get the liquid to the soft ball stage. I poured the fudge into a 9×13 cake pan, but the pieces are very thin. I think an 8×8 pan would be better.
Danny was a twin foster that lived with us for a while. I met the woman who had his twin brother, also in foster care.
Oops, his name was Danny not David.
In the back of my mind I was wondering if he was one of the foster kiddos but I just don’t recall much about them, except for Lenore (I think that was her name?).
I think that is David – he was foster kid that lived with us. He was super nice — but he was allergic to chocolate, poor guy.
My mouth is absolutely watering…wish I had some to go with my morning coffee. And while we’re celebrating mother’s day for our own mom, I couldn’t resist adding pictures of the recipe’s namesake (Grandpa) Pearl and (Grandpa) Charlie (Spider). Bonus: There’s Paula, Melissa and me in 1967, apparently showing no residual hangover from the “Summer of Love” that year! Not sure if that’s our cousin Matt or John in the picture…?
